There’s a buzz in the press recently about a new type of credit card: the “Social Credit Card”.
Apparently, Barclays, Citibank and AmEx are tailoring some of their offerings to tie in with Twitter, Facebook and other social networks where expenditure and points accrued might magically elevate a purchaser’s ‘social status’ online.
The Citibank offering, currently targeted at the Singaporean market, would seem to have the most current potential, where it’s assumed the elite will be flashing their new plastic at the harbor-front bars and clubs and checking and comparing their social rankings in realtime by mobile, as their dollars are spent.
